JR is 25 years old, has been married to Anna for four years, and is Ryan's older brother. JR began running dogs when he was seven years old. JR and Ryan grew up training and racing sled dogs through out their school years. By the time JR was 18 years old he had been racing for over seven years. After high school JR started building the foundation of his current sled dog team. In the fall of 1999 JR accepted a handler position in Alaska with 5 time Iditarod Champion Rick Swenson. This handling position helped cement and propel JR's goals to develop his own championship racing kennel.
After returning home from Alaska land was purchased in northern Minnesota to enable the brothers to expand the kennel operation. This move was a pivotal point for the kennels expansion, which has opened many opportunities for the future.
JR owns and operates a dog sled business named Husky Creek Sleds. He designs and builds dog sleds for competitive sled dog racing. He is also a professional black bear guide in the fall.
