Ryan, 26 years old, has been involved with sled dogs since he was 5. He started racing the 4-dog sprint class in 1992. In 1994 he became the youngest musher to compete in the John Beargrease Sled Dog Race in Duluth, Minnesota. He was often the youngest person in every race he entered. In 2001 he was the John Beargrease 150 Champion. After graduating from high school Ryan made the decision to become serious about racing sled dogs. This is when he and his brother moved from Pine City, Minnesota to the northwoods of Minnesota. This move had positive results for Ryan and his team including earning the Rookie of the Year Award from the UP 200 in 2004 .
Ryan is a carpenter by trade and works during the summer months for a local construction company. In the winter he devotes his time and energy to training and racing his Alaskan huskies. Currently Ryan races primarily in the Midwest region. However he has also raced in Canada, Alaska, and Maine.
